Maddux loses second straight

Going up against the team with the best record in baseball, Greg Maddux falls for the second straight start. Even though some of the Mets bigger names were not in the lineup, there some pretty sick cards with Dave Magadan, Manny Trillo and John Gibbons all getting starts. It will be interesting to see how the rookie responds to adversity...

Shea Stadium.

walk in 5 innings. Chicago (NL) threatened in the 9th but New York (NL) was
able to put down the rally.

Roger McDowell earned the save, his 25th. The loss was charged to Greg
Maddux(1-2). He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.

Gene Michael was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of
loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've
been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine -
as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'
