The Chicago (NL) Cubs scored 4 runs in the 8th inning and nipped the Montreal
Expos 8 to 7 at Wrigley Field in a hard fought contest.
Chicago (NL) came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 8th
inning scoring 4 runners on 3 hits. The key at-bat was by Ron Cey who made
the crowd come alive when he doubled plating all three baserunners. Montreal
threatened in the 9th but Chicago (NL) was able to put down the rally.
The victory was credited to Lee Smith(7-2) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Smith got relief help from Drew Hall who gained credit for his 1st
save. Tim Burke(7-3) absorbed the loss in relief. He allowed 5 runs and 3
hits in 1 inning.
